March 2018 Teacher Spotlight

Erica Cox, Lead Koalas’ Teacher
(2 1/2 to 3 year olds)

When did you start working at The Little Lamb Christian School? “August 2017”
How long have you been working with children? “Working with children in one way or another has just been part of my life since I was young. I was the oldest of five children in my family so I looked out for my younger siblings. Then in high school I volunteered at church to work in the nursery, teach children’s church, and help with VBS. I also worked at a Christian summer camp for two summers. When I was in college I taught Sunday School and Children’s Church. I also was the RA for the girl’s dorm in a boarding high school for my senior year of college. After I graduated, I worked in a church daycare for a year. Then I worked with troubled teens in a Residential Treatment Facility for over a year. Now, I’ve worked in a formal preschool setting for a little over a year, and I believe that our of all the age groups I’ve worked with, early childhood is my passion.”
Education: “I earned my A.A. in Biblical Studies from Kentucky Mountain Bible College in 2014. I earned my CDA with infant/toddler focus in July 2017.”
Tell us about your family: “I live in Indianapolis with my husband, Dustin, and my cat, Ebony. I’ve been married about two and a half years.”
Hobbies: “I enjoy reading almost anything besides romance, watching cop shows, playing with my cat, cooking and taking walks outside especially in the Fall.”
Favorite Candy: “Reese’s Cups”
Favorite Movie: “Anything from the Marvel Universe, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass, almost anything Disney especially animated.”
Favorite Music: “I usually listen to contemporary Christian in the car, but I’ll listen to a wide range of genres within Christian music, especially Christian rap.”
Tell us something that most people don’t know about you: “I was in choir for two years in college and loved it! We traveled during Spring Break to several different states to sing in churches. I still love to sing and have been told by close friends that I have a beautiful voice, but I have terrible stage fright which hinders me from singing solos.”
Why do you love to work with young children?: “There’s something truly satisfying when you watch a child learn and discover something new. Children are the future. I love watching them grow into their potential and watching them develop different preferences and personality traits. I truly believe that to teach a child is to shape the world.”
What do you enjoy most about working at The Little Lamb Christian School?: “I enjoy most the positive atmosphere. The support and encouragement from management and co-workers is phenomenal.”
Favorite Bible Verse: “It’s always changing, but I would say that Jeremiah 29:11 along with Isaiah 43:19 are my favorite currently.”
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
“Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

We love having Erica on our Little Lamb team! She is a wonderful teacher who truly cares for the children. Thank you, Erica, for all that you do!
